Central Learning Hub Opens in Herford County: experiMINT spearheads educational facility for youth

In the heart of Herford, a new learning location is set to emerge within the next 14 to 15 months. Known as the "MINT.space", this innovative hub will boast a workshop, a training room, and a co-working space, all dedicated to fostering interest and knowledge in the MINT (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology) professions.

The MINT.space is more than just a physical space. It is a platform for collaboration between educators, guardians, and local businesses, aiming to make technology and computer science lessons more application-oriented. Through workshops and networking events, teachers and guardians can learn from industry experts and connect with companies, opening up a world of opportunities for their students.

One such company supporting the MINT.space project is Thermomatik GmbH & Co. KG, a leading player in refrigeration and air conditioning technology. Björn Feicht, an expert from Thermomatik, hopes to attract young talent through the MINT.space, ensuring a steady stream of fresh ideas and innovative minds for the future.

The MINT.space project is organised in cooperation with the Bielefeld-based association "experiMINT", which has been connecting lively career and study orientation with a strong network of over 80 members since 2009. Dr. Agnes Heinemann, the managing director of experiMINT e.V., is at the helm of this initiative.

Many other parties have shown their support for the project, including small and medium-sized enterprises like MIT Systemarmaturen and Remmert, large companies such as Häcker Küchen, regional economic development agencies, the employment agency, the IHK Ostwestfalen to Bielefeld, the Handwerkskammer Ostwestfalen-Lippe to Bielefeld, and the Kreishandwerkerschaft Wittekindsland. Even Hettich, one of the largest training companies, is lending its support to the project and will engage with experiMINT.

County Commissioner Jürgen Müller sees great potential in the project, believing it will provide companies with a new platform to present themselves to the next generation. The MINT.space will offer practice-oriented offers, school class programs, and afternoon and holiday programs, ensuring that young minds are constantly engaged and inspired.

Interested businesses and companies can join the project at any time by contacting experiMINT (www.experiMINT.de). The MINT.space is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, and the planned location on Ravensberger Straße in Herford will offer regular opportunities for businesses to present themselves and their work to young people.

Through practical projects and real-life context, the MINT.space aims to make the complex MINT field and the diverse world of work of tomorrow tangible, fostering long-term interest in children and young people. By inspiring more young people for the diverse career opportunities in the region, the MINT.space is set to make a significant impact on the future of Herford and its surrounding areas.
