Champions League contender's focus shifts to Newcastle United acquisition, following Wout Weghorst deal, with Alexander Isak sale proceeds earmarked for the transfer, according to reports.
Newcastle United's pursuit of a high-profile signing continues, with reports suggesting that the Magpies are in talks with Inter Milan for the acquisition of midfielder Davide Frattesi. The Italian international, known for his goalscoring ability and hard-working nature, could potentially join the Tyneside club for a reported fee of €40m (£34.5m), according to Sky Sport Italia.
Frattesi, who began the 2022-2023 Serie A season as a spectator, impressed during his nine league starts for Inter last season, scoring an impressive five goals. His bit-part role at San Siro this season might make him open to a move, as he seeks regular game time.
If the deal materialises, Frattesi might join up with fellow Italy international Sandro Tonali at Newcastle, should Tonali's proposed move to the club from Brescia come to fruition. However, it's important to note that Inter Milan has not announced a transfer for Frattesi and is currently preparing a new long-term contract for him.
Newcastle are expected to recoup somewhere in the region of £130m from Liverpool, should the Merseysiders place a second official bid for their Swedish forward, Isak. However, Isak has ruled himself out of contention at St. James' Park since the club's pre-season tour of the Far East last month, citing a broken relationship with higher-ups at the club.
The German Woltemade's acquisition is expected to pave the way for Isak to join Liverpool in a British transfer record deal. The transfer of Frattesi to Newcastle United is not yet finalized, and official negotiations for a transfer have not begun as of early September 2025.
Frattesi, who previously played for Sassuolo, has a reported transfer value of €35m. He is regarded as a hard-worker by Italian fans and is known for his goalscoring ability in Italy. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be the next addition to Eddie Howe's squad.
As the transfer window continues to unfold, fans of both Inter Milan and Newcastle United will be keeping a close eye on developments regarding Frattesi's potential move to St. James' Park.
