Champions Sarault and Roussel clinch gold at the Canadian Championships
Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships: Felix Roussel and Courtney Sarault Shine in 1000 Meters Races
The fourth day of the Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal saw exciting finishes in both the men's and women's 1000 meters races.
In the men's final, Felix Roussel, a native of Sherbrooke, secured his third gold medal of the Championships. Roussel overtook William Dandjinou on the last lap to win the race, finishing with a time of 1:25.144 seconds. Dandjinou claimed the silver medal, finishing just behind Roussel with a time of 1:25.379 seconds. Mathieu Pelletier took the bronze medal with a time of 1:25.672 seconds.
Roussel, expressing his satisfaction with his performance, stated that winning gold in the 1000 meters is a great victory. He also mentioned that he is trying his best to catch up to William Dandjinou in the overall ranking.
Meanwhile, in the women's final, Courtney Sarault took the lead with three laps remaining and went on to win the race with a time of 1 minute 29.214 seconds. This extends her winning streak to seven at these Championships. Ann-Sophie Bachand finished second, earning the silver medal with a time of 1:29.982. Danae Blais took the bronze medal with a time of 1:30.352.
Bachand expressed her happiness with her performance and plans to maintain the same mindset for future races. She made two successful overtakes to go from fourth to second place, overtaking Danae Blais on the outside and Florence Brunelle on the inside.
The Canadian Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2025 will conclude on Sunday with the third and final races of the 500 meters and 1500 meters events. However, as of now, there are no available search results providing information about the current leader in the overall standings.
