To create your own rainbow chandelier, you'll need an 11-inch metal shade ring as the base, a 6-inch wooden embroidery hoop for the centre, and a 30-inch piece of string or yarn to form six pom pom strands. Each strand requires 16 1 ¼-inch pom poms, making a total of 96 pom poms for the project.
Begin by threading the pom poms onto the long piece of string using a large eye needle. Once threaded, tie the pom pom strands at equal intervals around the outer edge of the metal shade ring. Ensure that the ends of each string are tied to the corresponding mark located one position over on the inside ring.
Next, position the embroidery hoop in the centre of the metal ring. Mark equal intervals around the inside ring that align with the strings tied on the outside ring. Attach long pieces of string or yarn to each of the three metal spokes extending from the centre of the shade, serving as a hanging mechanism for the chandelier.
Secure the embroidery hoop to the metal ring using hot glue and craft wire. Once the glue has dried, tie the strings from the spokes to the corresponding pom pom strands on the inside of the hoop.
For added functionality, attach a battery-operated touch light to the centre of the metal shade ring using hot glue. You can also spray paint the chandelier base with white paint (or a colour that complements the pom poms) to give it a personal touch.
