Channel 4's Piano Competition: Information on the Talent Event, Judges, and Season 2's Premiere
Channel 4's hit TV talent competition, The Piano, is set to return for a second series, following its successful debut in 2023. The show, which focuses on the piano and seeks to find the UK's top amateur pianists, has been renewed for two more series and a Christmas special.
The contest, hosted by TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, has become Channel 4's best-rating new format since 2017, with an average of 2.7 million viewers. In the first series, the contest culminated in a grand concert finale at the Royal Festival Hall, with 13-year-old Lucy Illingworth, a young blind virtuoso from West Yorkshire, crowned as the winner.
The four finalists of series one included Lucy, Jay from the Isle of Wight, Sean from Edinburgh, and Danny from Manchester. The judges for the show, Lang Lang and pop singer Mika, expressed their delight at being involved in such a high-profile TV programme centered around the piano.
Lang Lang, the superstar Chinese virtuoso, praised the show, stating it took viewers on a remarkable emotional roller coaster. Mika, on the other hand, kept his adjudication secret, adding an element of mystery to the competition.
In the upcoming second series, which will consist of seven episodes, Claudia Winkleman will return alongside the judges Lang Lang and Mika. The contestants span ages from six to 95, promising a diverse and exciting range of talent. The second series will be filmed in new iconic locations as well as those that featured in the first series.
The second season of The Piano is set to air on Sunday 28 April at 8pm on Channel 4. Ritula Shah and Myleene Klass also join the programme, offering blissful piano music in the evenings on Global Player.
Meanwhile, Claudia Winkleman will also be hosting the show "Taskmaster" on April 28, 2024, at 8 PM. So, get ready to tune in and witness the UK's top amateur pianists battle it out for the title of the best pianist in the country.
