Chaos erupts at Ringgold High School football stadium as one individual is left injured in a stabbing incident; assailant apprehended by authorities.
In an unexpected turn of events, the Ringgold School District has announced the cancellation of classes for Monday, following a violent incident that occurred at Joe Montana Stadium over the weekend.
The incident, which took place during a Class AA Division III football game between the Washington Little Prexies and the Ringgold Rams, has left the community shaken. According to Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich, the decision to cancel classes was made after careful consideration, with the least disruptive option for students and staff in mind.
The stabbing of a 19-year-old man was reported to authorities around 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, according to a Washington County 911 supervisor. The suspect arrested in connection with the incident is identified as John Doe.
Superintendent Skrinjorich confirmed that the incident occurred on District property. In a statement, he expressed concern and commitment to ensuring community safety, stating that the community is being affected by the incident. He also noted that school buildings will remain open to provide support during this time.
Garrett Behanna, a digital producer for our Pittsburgh, reported on the incident. Behanna, who has been with the KDKA team since May 2022, shared that the community is expressing shock and concern about fan behavior. Zack Weaver, whose son plays youth football, echoed these sentiments, stating that there should be more security at youth football games, including security at the gate and more guards present.
In response to the incident, Superintendent Skrinjorich also suggested that the District will be cooperating with authorities in the investigation. He further stated that counseling services will be available for students who need support.
Transportation will still be running for all other schools, and school buildings will remain open on Monday. The community is urged to stay informed and follow updates from the school district regarding the situation.
