Chaotic aftermath following illicit speed competition involving vehicles in Poland

On a chilly August evening, a traffic accident occurred in the town of Bulmke-Hüllen, Gelsenkirchen, at 11:30 PM on August 30, 2025. The incident took place on Florastraße, causing quite a stir in the local community.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident: a damaged Audi A6, sporting a Recklinghausen city license plate, and a VW Golf registered in Gelsenkirchen. The Audi was found facing a wall, while the VW Golf was located a few meters away between a green area and a metal fence.

Remarkably, no injuries were reported, and no persons were present at the scene. However, contradictory statements from a 26-year-old Bulgarian, who identified himself as the owner and driver of the Audi, along with statements from independent witnesses, have led to suspicion of an illegal street race before the accident.

The 26-year-old Bulgarian and his vehicle have been the focus of the investigation so far. The Audi was secured as evidence, and his driver's license was temporarily confiscated. It is suspected that the actual driver of the Audi may have fled the scene.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, and the organizer(s) of the illegal street races before the incident have not been identified yet. The Gelsenkirchen police are actively seeking information from witnesses to help clarify the events leading up to the accident.

Witnesses are urged to contact the Gelsenkirchen police at 0209 365 2160 (control center) or 0209 365 6200 (traffic inspection 2) with any information they may have about the traffic accident on Florastraße. The Gelsenkirchen Police Control Center can also be reached via email at [email protected] for inquiries from journalists.

The police are hopeful that with the cooperation of the community, they can piece together the events of that fateful night and ensure justice is served. The public is reminded to always prioritise safety and obey traffic rules to prevent such incidents from happening again.
