Chechen high-ranking security officials and politicians conferred with the honorary title of 'Hero of the Donetsk People's Republic'.
Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, and several of his close associates have been recognised for their support in Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine. According to Russian independent media outlet Vertska, Kadyrov and 29 of his relatives have received at least 146 awards, medals, and titles since the full-scale invasion in 2022.
One of the most significant honours was the title of 'Hero of the DPR', which Kadyrov received in October 2022 from Denis Pushilin, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). Pushilin also bestowed the same title on four senior representatives of Chechnya: MP Adam Delimkhanov, Prime Minister of Chechnya Magomed Daudov, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic for the security bloc Abuzayd Vismuradov, and commander of the 'Akhmat' special forces, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov.
The 'Akhmat' special forces, led by Alaudinov, have been actively involved in fighting in Ukraine since spring 2022. In May 2023, they were redeployed to the Maryinka area of the DPR to conduct offensive operations.
Pushilin expressed gratitude to Kadyrov and the people of Chechnya for their unwavering support. He stated that Chechnya has been with them in all areas, including supplying military equipment and humanitarian aid to civilians.
In addition to the titles and awards, Kadyrov also presented the medal 'For Services to the Chechen Republic' to Russian senator Aleksandr Voloshin and Pushilin's adviser Yakov Khachanyan.
The support from Chechnya extends beyond the battlefield. Aimani Kadyrova, the mother of Kadyrov, was awarded by Ukraine's Russian-occupied Kherson. This award, however, was not recognised by the Chechen authorities.
The meeting in Donetsk where these awards were presented was attended not only by the awardees but also by Chechnya's Minister for National Policy, Foreign Relations, Press and Information, Akhmed Dudaev.
Chechen fighters continue to take part in combat operations in Ukraine, contributing significantly to the tasks set by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Kadyrov. This ongoing support underscores the deep-rooted ties between Chechnya and Russia in the midst of the ongoing conflict.
