Children in Gaza denied education for the third consecutive year, affecting roughly 700,000 young minds.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is calling for immediate action as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate. The international community is being urged to use its influence to end the ongoing conflict.

UNICEF, along with partner organizations, is setting up temporary learning centers throughout the Gaza Strip. As of now, around 90 of these centers are operational, offering classes in Arabic, sciences, and mathematics. However, the nature of these learning centers is temporary, and classes do not last a full school week.

Tess Ingran, UNICEF spokesperson, has denounced the recurring nightmare of malnutrition in Gaza. She stated that without immediate and expanded access to nutritional and dietary treatments, more children will die of hunger. The UN declared hunger in the province of Gaza last month, marking the first time in the Middle East. The situation is expected to spread to the provinces of Deir el-Balah (center) and Khan Yunis (south) by the end of September.

Ingran also highlighted the issue of malnutrition and hunger in Gaza, describing it as a place "where childhood cannot survive." She asserted that spending an hour in a nutrition clinic in Gaza would dispel any doubt about the existence of hunger. The continued lack of food, potable water, and essential supplies in Gaza is causing malnourished children to return to emergencies or suffer relapses.

The situation in Gaza City is particularly dire. Ingran warned that the unimaginable has already begun, with children dying, being buried in rubble, and silenced before they even have a chance to speak. Children in Gaza are being killed or maimed while they sleep almost every night. Many children who should have already graduated have not had the opportunity to do so due to the same war.

UNICEF is advocating for a return to formal education for the 700,000 children in Gaza who are losing access to education due to the war. Hospitals in Gaza have long reached their limit, with only 5 hospitals having neonatal intensive care units and around 80 babies fighting for their lives in overcrowded incubators.

UNICEF has also urged Israel to allow sufficient aid into Gaza and secure, consistent access for humanitarian workers to provide vital assistance to families. The organisation is working tirelessly to provide support and relief to the children and families affected by the crisis in Gaza.
