China and Vietnam Strengthen Legislative Ties During Zhao Leji's Visit
China and Vietnam are strengthening their legislative cooperation, as Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, pays an official visit to Vietnam. The visit marks a significant milestone, with the first meeting of the Cooperation Committee between the Chinese NPC and the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) set to take place during this visit.
Zhao Leji will co-chair the first session of the Cooperation Committee with his Vietnamese counterpart. The Committee's establishment underscores the importance both countries attach to their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the China-Vietnam Community with a shared future, a priority in China's neighbourhood diplomacy.
Party General Secretary Lạm, of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee, hosted a reception for Zhao Leji, expressing gratitude for China's support and reminiscing about the deep historical ties between the two countries. Lạm also emphasised the need to strengthen political trust and strategic coordination between the two Parties and countries.
Lạm proposed improvements to the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms across Party, Government, parliament, and Front channels. He also suggested expanding collaboration in science and technology, particularly in strategic fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, nuclear energy, 5G, and 6G.
The Vietnamese Party, State, and people remember with gratitude the support from the Chinese Party and fraternal people. Both countries have maintained stability and development despite profound global changes, with relations between the two Parties and countries achieving outstanding progress under the six major orientations.
On the East Sea issue, Lạm proposed both sides continue to manage and better resolve differences, placing themselves in each other's position, and working together to maintain a peaceful and stable environment.
Zhao Leji affirmed China's readiness to work with Vietnam to properly manage and resolve differences, jointly maintain peace and stability at sea, and create a favourable environment for each country's development. He also expressed his hope that the legislative bodies of both countries will play a stronger role in fostering higher-level connectivity between the two economies.
Lạm conveyed warm regards and best wishes to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping and other senior Chinese leaders. He stressed the importance of intensifying people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the social foundation of the bilateral relations.
Chairman Zhao expressed his support for Vietnam's successful organisation of the upcoming 14th National Party Congress, as well as the country's ongoing Đoì mới (renewal) process, and its push for industrialisation, modernisation, and socialism. He also agreed with Lạm's views and affirmed China's readiness to work with Vietnam to implement the outcomes of the state visit by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.
In conclusion, the visit of Zhao Leji to Vietnam signifies a new milestone in the legislative cooperation between the two countries. Both China and Vietnam aim to strengthen political trust, enhance strategic coordination, and deepen ties between their legislatures, governments, and people.
