"Christine Brown, a prominent figure on the show 'Sister Wives', confesses her 'completely heart-wrenching' struggle with addiction to oxycodone"
Christine Brown, a former star of the popular reality TV show "Sister Wives," has revealed her struggle with addiction in her new memoir, "Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family and Finding Freedom." In the book, Brown details her battle with oxycodone addiction, a substance she found to be highly addictive.
Brown's journey began after she tore her ACL and meniscus and was given a prescription for pain pills by her husband Kody Brown following surgery. Despite never having taken oxycodone before, Brown found the drug to be a powerful pain reliever. The oxycodone gave her the best high she'd ever felt, making her feel like she was "on top of the world" and "could accomplish everything!"
However, Brown soon found herself "on it for a month," and the effects of the addiction lasted at least six months. Brown dealt with her addiction privately, finding it "absolutely devastating" and "very difficult." She acknowledges that if one is in significant pain, oxycodone can be beneficial, but for her, it's best to avoid it due to her propensity to become addicted.
Brown's addiction was not a topic she delved into while on "Sister Wives." She found discussing her addiction personal and embarrassing. Brown's memoir, however, provides a raw and honest account of her struggle with addiction and her journey towards recovery.
Brown's personal life has also undergone significant changes. In November 2021, she announced her separation from Kody Brown, a polygamist with whom she shares six children. In October 2023, Brown married David Woolley.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction or mental health issues, help is available. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides a helpline number for those affected by the issues raised in this story.
In her memoir, Brown encourages readers to seek help and support when facing challenges, and to never give up on finding freedom and happiness.
