Mike Pennel, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has found a new home in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals have signed the defensive lineman to their practice squad, as announced by the team's general manager, Brett Veach.

Pennel's journey in the league began after going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. He signed a three-year contract with the Green Bay Packers and proved his worth on the field. After his stint with the Packers, Pennel went on to play for the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, and had a successful two-season run with the Kansas City Chiefs.

During his time with the Chiefs, Pennel made significant contributions to the team's defensive line. In 42 games (eight starts), he recorded 4.0 sacks, 82 combined tackles, and five quarterback hits. His best performances often came in short spurts, as praised by Chiefs general manager Brett Veach.

The Chiefs, however, have parted ways with Pennel before the 2025 NFL season. This decision came after they ranked 26th in the NFL in 2024 with a 5.91 percent defensive sack rate, and 25th with 36 defensive sacks, according to league statistics.

The Bengals, on the other hand, are looking to improve their defensive line. In the 2024 season, they ranked 25th in the league with 36 defensive sacks. With Pennel's addition, they hope to boost their defensive performance and climb up the rankings.

The Bengals are scheduled to play their first game of the 2025 season against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7, 2025. Pennel's plan is to be called up from the practice squad to the main roster, where he can make an immediate impact on the team's defensive line.

Pennel's journey in the NFL has been marked by resilience and determination. From going undrafted to becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion, Pennel's story is a testament to his talent and dedication to the game. As he embarks on this new chapter with the Cincinnati Bengals, fans and analysts alike are eager to see what he will bring to the table.
