Citizens cautioned about false police telephone calls

In recent weeks, a group posing as police officers has been targeting residents in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region, extorting money and jewelry under the pretense of a police check. The fraudulent calls have been reported in multiple districts, including Anklam, Neubrandenburg, and the Müritz area.

The Police Inspectorate Anklam has issued a warning about these ongoing calls, urging residents to be vigilant. The calls are being made from the Anklam and Neubrandenburg areas, and the fraudsters claim to be police officers, using the threat of local criminal activities to try and obtain valuables and money from their victims.

Two pensioners in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district fell victim to these scammers on August 15, 2025. In both cases, the fraudsters managed to extract a total of 24,000 euros. However, on the same day, two other victims in the district reported the calls but did not lose any money or valuables.

In the Müritz cases, the fraudster targeted an 81-year-old and another victim in their 50s, but neither fell for the scam. Despite the attempts, no damage was reported in either of the Mürez cases.

The police are urging residents to report any suspicious calls to the authorities. If you receive a call claiming to be from the police and asking for personal information or valuables, hang up and contact the Press Office of the Police Inspectorate Anklam at 03971 251 3040 or [email protected]. For more information, visit www.polizei-beratung.de. The official website of the Police Inspectorate Anklam is http://www.polizei.mvnet.de.

The fraudulent calls are ongoing, and residents are urged to remain vigilant to protect themselves and their belongings. Stay safe and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
