Renovated Playground on Zonser Straße: A Space for Children, by Children

The playground on Zonser Straße is set for a major renovation, with a total investment of over 200,000 euros by the city administration. The new playground design, heavily influenced by the ideas of local children, promises to be a vibrant and engaging space for children of all ages.

The renovation will retain the existing tree stock and the popular zip line, while adding new trees and modern movement offerings. These include a climbing and sliding combination, a motor skills path for balancing and climbing, a bird's nest swing, and a spinning stand carousel. Swings for toddlers and schoolchildren will also be part of the new play area, along with a sand play area complete with playhouses.

Around 40 children participated in an ideas workshop held at the Erich-Kästner Elementary School in spring, contributing their wishes and suggestions for the renovated playground. The entrance area will also be renovated as part of the project.

No details about the construction company commissioned for the renovation have been released yet, but all preliminary planning, including tendering and commissioning, is expected to be completed this year. The construction start for the renovated playground is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

Mayor Erik Lierenfeld stated that the new playground will be a place "shaped by the children, for the children." He emphasised that the renovated playground is intended to be a place where children will find themselves later.

Benches, a seating group, and a lawn area will be added to the renovated play area, providing ample space for adults to relax while their children play. This renovation project is a testament to the city's commitment to creating safe, enjoyable, and engaging spaces for children to grow and learn.
