In the heart of eastern Germany, the city of Chemnitz has undergone a significant transformation under the leadership of Michael Stötzer, the former Mayor for Urban Development and Construction. Approved by the City Council, Stötzer has dedicated an impressive 18 years to the city, with 10 years at the helm of Department 6.

One of Stötzer's most notable achievements is the construction of over 20 bridges, including the Zschopauer Straße and the Viaduct in Rabenstein. These structures have not only improved the city's infrastructure but also enhanced its aesthetic appeal.

Stötzer's tenure also saw the creation of the swimming complex Bernsdorf and the bus terminal, two essential additions that have significantly improved the city's transportation and leisure facilities.

The city's educational institutions have also received a boost under Stötzer's leadership. The Terra Nova Campus and the Oberschule Am Hartmannplatz are among the schools that have been renovated or expanded. Furthermore, during his tenure, five new schools have been built, and 52 existing ones have been expanded or renovated.

Sports facilities in Chemnitz have also received a significant upgrade. Eight new sports halls and 19 modernized sports halls have been built, ensuring that the city's residents have access to top-notch sports facilities.

In addition, six new kindergartens have been built, and 31 existing ones have been renovated, ensuring that the city's youngest residents have access to quality early education facilities.

The city of Chemnitz has 30 intervention areas, and buildings and areas have been redesigned, upgraded, or completely rebuilt in these areas. This extensive renovation work was partly due to Chemnitz's role as the European Capital of Culture in recent years.

As Stötzer steps down from his role, the city of Chemnitz stands as a testament to his dedication and hard work. The new mayor for urban development and construction has yet to be named, but the legacy left by Stötzer will undoubtedly be a tough act to follow.
