City Data Integrated on a Single Platform
Marburg Launches Comprehensive Municipal Data Dashboard
The university town of Marburg in Hesse has unveiled a new data and information service called "Marburg by the Numbers," which promises to be the most comprehensive municipal data dashboard in the region.
The service, available online and in mobile view, presents an extensive range of thematic data and visualizations covering social, economic, environmental, and mobility aspects of the city. It is modelled on existing dashboard solutions from the cities of Münster and Aschaffenburg and is available for adaptation under an open-source license for other municipalities.
Safety and Order
Under the "Safety and Order" section, a diagram visualizes the fire department deployments, divided by deployment types. A timeline provides information on the number of traffic accidents since 2015.
Living and Housing
The tile under "Living and Housing" shows the population development of the past ten years, including births, deaths, arrivals, and departures.
Rental Bikes
The rental system for rental bikes can be accessed directly via a link from the "Rental Bikes" tile, which currently shows an upward trend.
Life in Marburg
The "Life in Marburg" section of the dashboard includes interactive tiles grouped under topics such as "Energy and Resources," "Education and Participation," "Local Economy," and "Individual Traffic."
Under "Education and Participation," the number of Marburg schools and students is listed: there are 23 municipal and 11 private schools that are attended by almost 14,000 children, young people, and adults. Data on the Marburg adult education center (vhs) and the city library are also available under this section.
Environment and Climate
Data on topics in four areas can currently be found: Environment and Climate, Life in Marburg, Economy and Work, Mobility and Traffic. In the "Mobility and Traffic" section, the dashboard provides data on the development of publicly accessible E-charging points in the city area and the total charging capacity available.
External Data Integration
External live data from the German Weather Service (DWD) is also integrated into the dashboard, particularly for weather, climate, and air quality data.
Implementation and Maintenance Costs
The implementation costs for "Marburg by the Numbers" amount to approximately 12,000 euros (gross), and the annual maintenance and operating costs, including solutions for accessibility, are approximately 1,500 euros (gross).
Target Audience
The service is free for various target groups, including interested citizens, politicians, media, companies, teachers, students, and researchers.
A link from the dashboard leads to the city's geoportal "Marburg in Maps," where the locations of the E-charging points in the city area are listed.
The city administration has been working on the dashboard since the beginning of the year, and "Marburg by the Numbers" is a new data and information service launched by the university town.
