In the heart of Dormagen, the Volunteer Reception 2025 was held at Kulturhof Knechtsteden, drawing over 500 volunteers who gathered to celebrate their tireless efforts. The event, dedicated to recognising the selfless work of the community, was supported by the Stadtbad- und Verkehrsgesellschaft (SVGD).
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld opened the event, expressing pride in the high value placed on volunteering in Dormagen. He highlighted the BrotZeit NRW project, which provides a free breakfast for children at three elementary schools daily, as an example of new volunteer initiatives in the city. The BrotZeit NRW project, led by Britta Wiemann, is making a significant impact in the lives of Dormagen's children.
The Senior Lunch Tables, expanded throughout the city, were another initiative showcased at the reception. These tables allow seniors to engage in conversation and exchange ideas over a meal in ten city districts. This initiative fosters a sense of community and provides opportunities for seniors to stay connected.
The musical entertainment for the evening was provided by Michael Singendonk, while Jürgen "Archie" Deneke performed as Udo Lindenberg, delighting the crowd with a captivating performance.
TSV Bayer Dormagen e.V. was also present, distributing free tickets for the next handball second division team's home game. Information booths offering volunteering opportunities were also available, providing attendees with the chance to learn more about how they could get involved.
Bernd Gellrich from the Diakonie, Martin Voigt from Currenta, and Mayor Erik Lierenfeld were among the attendees at the reception. A group photo of all guests and organizers was taken using a drone, capturing the spirit of unity and camaraderie that filled the event.
