City of Braunschweig Commences Construction of Siren Infrastructure

A new siren warning system is being rolled out across German cities in response to the changed security situation since 2022. The installation will commence with municipal buildings, followed by mast locations throughout the city, and eventually private buildings.

The city of Brunswick has approved the construction of an extensive siren network with over 100 locations. The first siren has already been installed on the roof of the Lessing Gymnasium in Wenden, marking the beginning of this significant project.

The new sirens are designed to supplement digital warning means and offer a wide range of acoustic signals and voice announcements. Each siren can output up to 20 different voice messages, providing flexibility in emergency communication.

The installation rate is planned to be one new or additional siren per day. Particularities such as mast locations that require weather-dependent work will be considered separately.

For demonstration purposes, the first siren locations will be installed and put into operation for the nationwide warning day on September 11. The completion of the project is planned for the beginning of 2026 at a total cost of around 3.4 million euros.

It's worth noting that the institution responsible for the installation of sirens on private buildings is not explicitly mentioned in the search results. However, siren installations and emergency infrastructure projects are typically managed by local government authorities or related municipal services. The completion of related projects like emergency infrastructure or siren expansions is often planned within a few years, with some projects expected to finish around 2026-2027, as indicated by timelines for connected infrastructure works within certain German districts.

This new siren network is an important step towards ensuring effective emergency communication across the country, providing a backup system for digital warnings and offering a more personalised approach to emergency announcements.
