City offering free discard for electrical devices

In our city, it's important to ensure that electronic waste is disposed of responsibly. Here's a guide to help you understand the rules and options available for recycling electrical appliances.

Scrap dealers are no longer permitted to collect electrical appliances, as outlined in Section 9 Paragraph 9 Sentence 1 ElektroG. This means that you cannot leave your old appliances at the roadside for collection, as it is now an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine.

Instead, you can submit your electrical appliances to one of the mentioned collection points. Small appliances up to 25 centimeters in edge length can be returned to electrical retailers for free. For devices over 25 cm edge length, the obligation to accept them free of charge only applies when purchasing a corresponding new device.

If you have small old electrical devices up to the size of a TV, you can take them to the bdks (Diakonie Kassel) at Kirchbaunaer Street 21 in Altenbauna during specific opening hours. The bdks accepts small electrical devices free of charge.

Large retailers with over 400 square meters of electronics sales area must also accept small appliances up to 25 centimeters for free.

For larger appliances and bulky waste, you can request collection online at http://www.abfall-kreis-kassel.de or via bulky waste cards. The Waste Disposal of the District of Kassel collects electrical appliances, metal objects, and bulky waste for free.

If you're looking for a more sustainable option, you might want to consider repairing your appliances instead of disposing of them. Repair Cafés offer assistance in repairing defective devices. The date for the next Repair Café in the city will be published in the city news.
