Gillamoos Festival Disrupted by Violence and Weather Woes
The Gillamoos festival, one of the largest and oldest folk festivals in Lower Bavaria, has been marred by a series of unfortunate incidents. Thousands of visitors were forced to leave the festival grounds on Thursday due to a severe weather warning, adding to the chaos that has been unfolding at the event.
The festival has witnessed multiple instances of violence and aggressive behavior. An 18-year-old reported a 19-year-old for intentional bodily harm after being insulted and punched in the face at a festival tent. An intoxicated 40-year-old punched a 23-year-old in the face during a heated argument, slightly injuring the younger man.
Several individuals have been involved in incidents of bodily harm. A 26-year-old was banned from the festival due to aggressive behavior towards the police, after he threw a flowerpot through a festival tent, hitting a 22-year-old on the head. Two 34-year-old men were given exclusion orders for aggressive behavior towards security staff.
The festival has also seen the use of unconventional weapons. A 16-year-old was found with a knuckleduster and is facing a procedure for violating the Weapons Act. The use of a flowerpot as a weapon was also reported.
Police have been actively involved in managing the situation, with several officers required to intervene before the men left the festival grounds. Exclusion orders have been issued to multiple individuals. An investigation into intentional bodily harm has been initiated against a 30-year-old for headbutting a security guard.
Despite these challenges, the festival, which lasts for five days, starting on Thursday, continues to attract a large number of visitors. However, the organisers are urging attendees to maintain peace and respect the rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
The investigation into the incidents is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days. The editorial team of Stern is currently unable to provide the name of the editor responsible for the newsletter sent on Wednesday.
