Climate Resilience and Sustainability Center Established in Dresden

The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) and the United Nations University (UNU) have joined forces to establish the UNU-Hub Climate Resilience and Sustainable Technology (CREST). The announcement was made at the Dresden Nexus Conference 2025, a significant event known for promoting the networking of sustainable research.

Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, reaffirmed the university's commitment to expand partnerships and turn knowledge into action. The UNU hub's goal is to ensure that technological innovations have an impact in practice. To achieve this, the hub will actively cooperate with political decision-makers, companies, and communities to bridge the gap between science and practice.

The Dresden Nexus Conference 2025, which took place from April 8 to 10, 2025, gathered participants from over 75 countries. The conference focused on discussing innovative concepts for sustainable resource use. The close cooperation between TUD and UNU-FLORES serves as a foundation for the new CREST hub.

Prof. Jürgen Stamm and Dr. André Lindner will lead the development of forward-looking solutions at CREST. The solutions developed at CREST aim to improve the lives of people worldwide. Interdisciplinary research will serve as a basis for promoting climate-resilient infrastructures, adaptive water management, and circular technologies.

The CREST hub will also promote innovative learning programs for resource efficiency and climate protection in an international context. Future engineers and political decision-makers will be trained at the CREST hub. Prof. Ursula Staudinger, TUD Rector, stated that the hub's founding in Dresden further strengthens international cooperation to develop solutions for climate change and resource scarcity.

The United Nations has chosen TUD as a partner, demonstrating confidence in TUD's expertise in climate resilience and sustainable environmental technologies. The CREST hub is supported and founded by collaborative institutions such as the Max Delbrück Center, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Pediatric Clinic), the German Rheumatology Research Center (DRFZ), and the Gläsernes Labor.

The Dresden Nexus Conference 2025 served as the occasion for the CREST hub's announcement. The solutions developed at CREST are expected to have a significant impact on the global fight against climate change and resource scarcity. The CREST hub will serve as a central hub for interdisciplinary exchange between various continents, working towards a sustainable future for all.
