Collaborative declaration addressing the human crisis in Gaza region

The international community has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, aiming to end the war, release hostages, and allow unhindered access for aid to enter the region. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of most EU countries, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as three EU commissioners, including EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas, Dubravka Šuica, and Hadja Lahbib, have appealed for action.

However, the government of Israel was urged to provide authorization for all international NGO aid shipments and unblock essential humanitarian actors. The statement emphasised the need for immediate, permanent, and concrete steps to facilitate safe, large-scale access for the UN, international NGOs, and humanitarian partners in Gaza.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached critical levels, with famine unfolding. The statement comes as the international community expresses grave concern over the ongoing crisis, with civilians, humanitarians, and medical workers at risk. The statement also called for the protection of these vulnerable groups in Gaza.

The statement further urged all crossings and routes to be used to allow a flood of aid into Gaza, including food, nutrition supplies, shelter, fuel, clean water, medicine, and medical equipment. Lethal force must not be used at distribution sites in Gaza.

The US, Qatar, and Egypt were thanked for their efforts in pushing for a ceasefire and pursuing peace. Restrictive new registration requirements may force essential international NGOs to leave the Occupied Palestinian Territories, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Urgent action is needed to halt and reverse starvation in Gaza. The international community has pledged its support in working towards a peaceful resolution and alleviating the suffering of the people in Gaza.
