Collision due to aquaplaning on A6 highway, resulting in a 76-year-old individual sustaining injuries
In an unfortunate incident on Monday afternoon (September 1), a traffic accident occurred on the A6 near Laumersheim. The accident involved two drivers, one from Erzenhausen, Germany, and the other from Bezons, France.
The 52-year-old driver from Erzenhausen was travelling towards Frankenthal when his car skidded due to heavy rain and aquaplaning, leading to the collision. Meanwhile, the 76-year-old driver from Bezons was driving on the right lane of the highway at the same time.
Heavy rain had occurred in the region earlier in the afternoon, making the roads slippery and dangerous. The police had issued a warning about aquaplaning, especially in low-lying areas, to ensure the safety of all road users.
As a result of the collision, both drivers were injured. The 76-year-old driver sustained minor hip injuries, while the extent of the 52-year-old driver's injuries is not yet known. The 76-year-old driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The damaged cars were not driveable after the accident and had to be towed away. Emergency services were on the scene to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, but it is believed that the heavy rain played a significant role in the incident. The police are urging all drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially during wet conditions, to prevent similar accidents from happening.
