"Comedy-Drama show 'Chabos': ZDFneo embarks on a temporal journey back to the 2000s"

In the upcoming German dramedy "Chabos," viewers will embark on a poignant journey through the early 2000s, as 36-year-old Peppi (Johannes Kienast) discovers he hasn't been invited to his class reunion. The series, created by the director-screenwriter duo Arkadij Khaet and Mickey Paatzsch, premieres on ZDFneo on August 24 at 8:15 PM.

Set in the Ruhr area, "Chabos" revolves around Peppi, PD (Jonathan Kriener), Alba (Loran Alhasan), and Gollum (Arsseni Bultmann). The creators describe the show as "nostalgia that hurts," implying a mix of nostalgia and confrontation of painful memories.

The series features a switch between time periods, with flashbacks designed to mimic the style of TV shows from that era. In some instances, adult Peppi appears in the 2006 set, watching his younger self. Intriguingly, adult Peppi also addresses the TV audience directly, breaking the fourth wall.

"Chabos" includes discriminatory language and attitudes in its portrayal of humor, with jokes about women, gay, and foreigners. However, the series aims to create a cohesive and honest portrait of the 2000s, encouraging reflection on oneself, one's own generation, or even society.

The story takes on various elements of the period, such as music, fashion, language, and pop culture references like Bill Kaulitz, Overground, Bro'Sis, Britt Hagedorn, ICQ, and the 2006 World Cup. These details add authenticity to the portrayal of growing up in the early 2000s.

More episodes of "Chabos" will follow on August 31 and September 7, with all eight episodes already available for streaming on ZDF since August 22. The series premiered at the Series Camp in June and is set to offer a unique blend of comedy and drama, with the tone shifting significantly in the final episodes.

Interestingly, the group in "Chabos" finds themselves in trouble for illegally downloading "Saw II" and must find a way to pay the demanded fine. This plot twist, along with the deeper themes and intricate character development, promises an engaging watch for viewers.
