Commemorative Event: Dormagen's VHS Unveils a Thought-Provoking Anniversary Program

The Volkshochschule Dormagen has announced an expanded and diverse fall program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the city. The new program, available online and more comprehensive than ever, includes over 80 additional offers in a new "Digital Learning" program area.

Registrations for the various courses can be made online at the VHS website or by phone at 02133 257 4179.

In the "Culture and Design" area, a new cooperation with the Bergische Universität has been established. This partnership offers a range of courses from knitting and upcycling to improvisation theater and vision board workshops. There's also a new cooperation with Bergische Universität Wuppertal in this area.

The regular offer in this section also includes English courses (A1-B2), conversation offers, educational holidays for Italian and Turkish, and a new beginner's Polish course.

For those interested in digital participation, courses like "Staying Connected in Old Age with Digital Products" and "ChatGPT for Actives in Old Age" are available. The #DigitalTuesday, the ARD series "FaktenSicher for Democracy", and the free webinar series "vhs goes green" are also included in the "Digital Learning" program area.

The "Qualification for Working Life - IT - Organization & Management" area of the Volkshochschule Dormagen program conveys professional skills, while the Politics, Society, and Environment section offers formats that inform, contextualize, and invite discussion.

For those seeking knowledge in health and wellness, the program focuses on lectures such as "Health in Old Age", relaxation methods, and culinary gift ideas. A lecture on testamentary provisions provides legal foundations for emergencies.

City tours in Cologne Rheinauhafen and on fashion history offer new perspectives on familiar places. The focus of the program remains on individual development, shared learning, and social cohesion, as stated by VHS director Christian Topp. He mentioned that the anniversary provided an opportunity to bring more content breadth and new formats into the program.

Evening classes for the subsequent acquisition of the lower secondary school leaving certificate and the intermediate school leaving certificate will start again. The deadline for registration for these evening classes is August 20, 2025.

Interested individuals are advised to check the online program as the printed brochure for the program is expected to be available in the second week of August. Additionally, the program offers 3D printing courses for all age groups.

The new fall program of Volkshochschule Dormagen is set to provide an engaging and enriching learning experience for all.
