The Ariadne Scenario Report 2025, a comprehensive study on transformation strategies for achieving climate neutrality in Germany by 2045, has been released by the Technical University of Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt). The report, edited by Gunnar Luderer and others, is now available online with a direct link in the Ariadne Scenario Explorer.
The report presents five possible transformation pathways for achieving climate neutrality in Germany by 2045. These pathways are detailed in the Power Focus, Hydrogen Focus, Technology Mix, Low Demand, and High Demand scenarios.
The Power Focus scenario explores the option space of the energy transition through direct electrification. On the other hand, the Hydrogen Focus scenario investigates the use of electrolytic hydrogen and derivatives for indirect electrification. The Technology Mix scenario compares the competition between direct electrification and indirect electrification.
Three scenarios in the report focus on different technologies: Power Focus, Hydrogen Focus, and Technology Mix. These scenarios provide insights into the potential roles of each technology in Germany's energy transition.
Two additional scenarios, Low Demand and High Demand, analyze the effects of an accelerated or delayed transformation in the end-use sectors of buildings, industry, and transport. These scenarios offer valuable insights into the potential consequences of different paces of transformation.
