In the historic Mindelheim town hall, the neighborhood helpers of Unterallgäu recently convened for a working group meeting, organised by Schaffenslust. The gathering was part of the network for elderly care and mental health in Memmingen-Unterallgaeu.

During the meeting, Cornelia Gallus from the guardianship office of the district administration presented on the importance, legal aspects, and benefits of a power of attorney. Gallus explained how a power of attorney helps to regulate one's own wishes and needs in case of illness or old age in a timely and legally secure manner.

She emphasised the importance of making provisions early on to preserve self-determination and to relieve relatives and trusted persons. Participants learned about the various aspects of a power of attorney, and how it can ensure that their personal wishes are respected even when they are unable to make decisions for themselves.

Schaffenslust, an organisation that supports the establishment and care of the local helper association Unterallgäu, accompanied the meeting and provided further information on their role in supporting the neighbourhood helpers. For more information, contact details can typically be found within the local community or from the Helferverband Unterallgäu itself.

The meeting provided a space for a lively exchange between the neighbourhood helpers, who shared their experiences and discussed ways to improve their services to the older people they support. The neighbourhood helpers in Unterallgäu aim to enable older people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible by providing small services and support.

Overall, the meeting was a valuable opportunity for the neighbourhood helpers to come together, learn, and share their knowledge and experiences. It also highlighted the importance of making provisions for the future and the role that organisations like Schaffenslust play in supporting the local helper association Unterallgäu.
