Community's Financial Well-being Tied to Education and Local Development
Collaborative Efforts Lead to Establishment of Canoeing Club at Ludwig-Povel School in Nordhorn
A unique collaboration between the Ludwig-Povel School, the city of Nordhorn, and Kreissparkasse Grafschaft Bentheim has resulted in the establishment of a canoeing club at the school. This initiative, aimed at promoting water sports in the area, has been successful for about two years now.
The collaboration began in 2021 with the construction of a canoe dock on the Nordhorn-Almelo Canal near the Ludwig-Povel School. This was followed by the joint inauguration tour for the canoeing club in 2021. The boat trip, a unique event, marked the beginning of this collaboration for school sports.
In 2023, with financial support from the city of Nordhorn and the Grafschafter Sparkassen Foundation, 14 canoes with comprehensive initial equipment were purchased. The canoeing club at the Ludwig-Povel School was officially launched with this purchase. Since then, the club has been regularly training on the water.
The city of Nordhorn, known as a water city, said that this development is a real enrichment for the city. Students can now engage in water sports, providing them with a new and exciting opportunity. The boat trip, a celebration of this successful cooperation for school sports, was attended by Nordhorn's Mayor Thomas Berling, the board of the Kreissparkasse Jens Knippen, and the school principal André Mülstegen. They joined in the boats to experience the sports offering firsthand.
Klaus Blank served as the project's knowledgeable advisor. The financial support for the kayak club of the Ludwig-Povel School in 2023 was provided by the city of Rostock.
This collaboration for school sports has led to the establishment of a canoeing club at the Ludwig-Povel School, making it possible for students to learn and enjoy water sports. The city of Nordhorn, Kreissparkasse Grafschaft Bentheim, and the Ludwig-Povel School are to be commended for their efforts in promoting physical activity and providing students with a diverse range of sports options.
