Completed count of primary schools found in Gießen-West

The renovation of Gießen-West Elementary School, completed in 2025, has transformed the educational landscape for over 420 students. The school, which has been a full-day elementary school since 1971, has been modernised to provide a more engaging and child-friendly learning environment.

The main building was rebuilt to its core structure, with the interior spaces now featuring bright learning clusters arranged around open forums. These areas are designed for group work, creative projects, and individual support, enhancing the pedagogical daily life of the students.

The outdoor areas, including the atrium and courtyards, have been completely redesigned. The atrium serves as a green classroom within the school's outdoor spaces, while the courtyards provide ample space for play, movement, and discovery.

The sports hall was partially renovated before the main building, and a new cafeteria was constructed. This cafeteria is not only available for the school's students but also open to the neighbourhood, fostering a sense of community.

The school's renovation aimed to save "gray energy" and prioritised sustainability, preserving existing building substance. The building was updated energetically and technically to the latest standards, making it an important contribution to climate protection.

The new interior spaces include the learning clusters, open forums, library, and full-day care area. The library offers additional spaces for learning and interaction within the school, while the full-day care area provides extended support for students.

The renovated school now offers a modern and child-friendly learning environment, with the outdoor areas and atrium encouraging exploration and creativity, and the indoor spaces fostering collaboration and individual development. The students will move into the new spaces by the fall break, ready to embark on a new academic year in their transformed school.
