Concerns rise among Vinales and Espargaro regarding the MotoGP competition at Barcelona.
Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro Face Uncertainty in Barcelona MotoGP Race
Two weeks before the MotoGP race in Barcelona, Aleix Espargaro was set to serve as a substitute rider for Somkiat Chantra but had to withdraw due to a new crash on his bicycle, resulting in spinal injuries and severe pain. Espargaro has essentially broken his L3 and L4 lumbar vertebrae.
Despite his injuries, Espargaro will participate in the race as a wildcard entry. However, he expressed uncertainty about his ability to push the motorcycle to its limit during the race.
Maverick Vinales, former teammate of Espargaro, will also be competing in the race, despite a long-standing shoulder injury, which is the most severe of his career. Vinales too is unsure if he can push the motorcycle to its limit during the race.
Vinales was granted a provisional start by doctors, but his participation is uncertain. He has been able to perform push-ups and ride a 600cc motorcycle on the kart track, but finds it challenging to get used to the motorcycle on the straights.
The KTM's limit has been raised, in part due to a former rival of Vinales. Honda, on the other hand, has brought many new developments in aerodynamics, engine, and chassis for the race, and tech fans should take a close look at Espargaro's motorcycle.
The MotoGP doctor, Dr. Charte, indicated it was "almost impossible" for both Espargaro and Vinales to start the MotoGP home race in Barcelona due to their injuries. However, their improving conditions and medical checks will determine their participation. Their treatment and medical assessments play a critical role in deciding if they can race.
Espargaro's employer granted his wish to participate, but his other job could jeopardize his appearance. The duration for which they will see the updated RC213V is still uncertain.
Vinales has hinted at the uncertainty of his home race. Espargaro, on the other hand, emphasized his determination to participate. The MotoGP race in Barcelona promises to be an exciting event, with many uncertainties surrounding the participation of two of its top riders.
