New Outdoor Space to Enhance Oldham's Cultural Quarter
Oldham is set to welcome a new public space in its town centre, as the new outdoor area in Hilton Square prepares to open up. The central square can accommodate up to 150 people for a stage, complete with lighting and sound systems. Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, expressed her excitement about the new space, stating that it will be a fantastic new location for arts and culture for residents, community groups, and visitors to Oldham. She is looking forward to seeing work get underway on the new space in Hilton Square.
As part of the work, improvements will be made to Southgate, Ashworth, and Greeves Street, including planting, new trees, seating areas, external lighting, and improved paving. This will transform the area, making it more inviting and attractive to residents and visitors alike.
The planning permission for the construction of this new public space for outdoor entertainment in Oldham was granted by the Oldham Council. The inspiration for creating the new area is to make it the 'heart' of Oldham's growing Cultural Quarter.
