Construction of a fiber-optic line slated for Talovka, Kamchatka
Headline: Fiber-Optic Line Expansion to Boost Internet Access in Kamchatka Krai
The Kamchatka Krai is set to experience a significant boost in internet connectivity, with plans to lay fiber-optic lines (FOL) in various settlements.
The upcoming FOL, approximately 440 km long, will serve eight settlements: Karaga, Kostroma, Ivashka, Tymlat, Ilypskoe (Karaigin District), Vyvenka, Korff, and Tilichi (Olyutor District). This project, which started in the second quarter of this year, is part of a larger initiative to improve digital infrastructure in the region.
Seven settlements in Kamchatka Krai already enjoy mobile internet thanks to this program. These include the Northern Koryaks village, Ayanka village, Tymlat village, Maiskoye village, Taezhny village, Karaga village, and Slautnoye village.
The list of settlements to receive FOL is determined based on federal quotas and the results of voting on the Gosuslugi portal. A notable addition to this list is Kamenka, a decision made by the governor after a trip to the Penzhinsky District.
The construction of the FOL to Manil, another potential recipient, is expected to start in 2025 and be completed in 2026-27. This project is anticipated to provide high-speed internet access to Manil's residents.
The villages of Kamenka, Talovka, and Manil are not the only beneficiaries of this digital transformation. A fiber-optic backbone, spanning 860 km, was successfully completed between 2022 and 2024 along the route of Anavgay - Ust-Hayryuzovo - Tigil - Palana - Ossora. This backbone already provides modern communication services, including high-speed internet and interactive television, to over 8,300 residents of nine settlements: Hayryuzovo, Ust-Hayryuzovo, Kovran, Voyampolka, Sedanka, Tigil, Palana, Lesnaya, and Ossora.
Nikolai Kiselyov, acting deputy chairman of the Kamchatka Krai government and minister of digital development, has expressed plans to potentially plan the route to the village of Manil. However, the name of the next settlement where a fiber-optic communication line will be laid in the Kamchatka Krai is yet to be announced.
To increase the availability of communication services in the Penzhinsky District, a program to eliminate digital inequality is being implemented. This includes the construction of a fiber-optic line to Kamenka through Talovka.
Despite challenges, this project is a testament to the region's commitment to providing universal communication services in settlements with a population of 100 to 500 people, and from 2025, up to 1,000 people. The expansion of the FOL network in Kamchatka Krai promises to bridge the digital divide and bring the benefits of high-speed internet to more residents.
