Consultations have been held regarding the following matters by the Commission:
Neustadt Street, a key connection to Gießen's central bus stop, the "Marketplace", will experience a significant disruption starting August 18, 2025. The roadway between house number 23 and Pfarrgarten Street will be fully closed due to construction work, causing a complete road closure.
Local public transport experts at SWG anticipate delays as a result of this massive disruption to traffic management. Nine bus lines, including 2, 3, 7, 12, 13, 800, 801, 802, and the Venus night bus, will be diverted due to the road closure.
Passengers transferring at the Marketplace who wish to switch to another line will temporarily find their connection only at the "Berliner Platz" stop or the "Government Center" stop. Lines 3, 7, 12, 13, 800, 801, 802, and the Venus night bus will serve the "Mühlstraße" stop in the West Annex and the "Johanneskirche" stop in the South Annex as a detour. Line 2, however, will not be able to serve the "Bahnhofstraße" stop and will instead stop at the "Katharinengasse" and "City-Center" stations.
During construction work, only lines 2, 5, 9 (taxi line), and 15 will stop at the Marketplace stop. The "Oswaldsgarten" stop will be completely omitted during the construction.
SWG spokesperson Ulli Boos stated that they are trying to minimise inconvenience for residents and businesses. For more information on current bus diversions, contact 0641 708-1400, visit www.stadtwerke-our website/traffic-info, or visit the RMV Mobility Center in Gießen at the SWG Customer Center on the Market Square. SWG can also be reached via email at mobizentrale@stadtwerke-our website.
Simultaneously, a portion of the street lighting will also be renewed during this work. This renewal of street lighting will not extend the construction time. The work is expected to be completed by early October.
On August 18, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will connect customers on Neustadt Street to the district heating network. Residents, passersby, and suppliers delivering goods to the Neustadt shopping center will have free access to the construction site.
A detour has been set up and signposted for through traffic. The main pipeline is on the other side of the street, necessitating digging up the roadway.
We advise passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and to check the latest updates on the SWG website or contact the customer service for any queries.
