Contemplation on the Year 2020: A Retrospective Overview
In a heartwarming meeting at her old high school, Jalisha Braxton, Natural Sciences Correspondent and Princeton University alumna of the Class of 2016, met with a Princeton-bound senior from her small town. This young scholar, a member of the Class of 2020, is one of the few from their hometown to attend an Ivy League school.
For Jalisha, her undergrad years at Princeton opened her eyes to endless possibilities and exposed her to opportunities she'd never dreamed of. Before attending Princeton, she had never written a paper longer than 10-15 pages, never traveled outside of the U.S., and never truly imagined a life for herself outside of her small town.
During her time at Princeton, Jalisha completed an entire thesis, studied abroad in Europe and Asia, and decided to spend the next 5+ years of her life in a graduate program in the city of Chicago. Her Princeton experience was a transformative one, shaping her into the confident and ambitious individual she is today.
Jalisha reflects on her Princeton experience with a sense of pride, knowing that someone else from her small town will be attending this prestigious institution. She advises the incoming class of Princetonians to let Princeton be their window to the world and to fearlessly pursue their heart's desires.
Joining Jalisha in the "Plans After Graduation" interviews are Emma Kaeser, Class of 2018, and Nicholas Wu, Class of 2018. Each of these Princeton alumni shares their post-university life experiences, offering insights and advice to current students and future graduates.
Emma Kaeser graduated from Princeton in 2018 and is interviewed in the same series. Similarly, Nicholas Wu, also a Class of 2018 graduate, shares his post-Princeton journey in the same feature.
While there is no publicly available information about who visited Jalisha at Princeton or what she studied, her story serves as an inspiration to countless young people from small towns who dream of a brighter future. Jalisha's journey from her small town to Princeton and beyond is a testament to the power of determination, perseverance, and the endless possibilities that education can bring.
