Contemporary Jazz Bassist in Osnabrück
Avishai Cohen, a renowned contemporary jazz bassist and virtuosic composer, will be performing at the Jewish Cultural Festival in Osnabrück Halle on September 6. This prestigious event, taking place from September 4 to 7, features a variety of events across multiple locations.
Born in Israel, Cohen received a classical piano education before discovering jazz at the age of 14. After graduating from the Music & Arts High School in Jerusalem and completing his military service, Cohen moved to New York in 1992. In the city that is the heart of jazz, Cohen continued his education at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
Cohen's first solo album, Adama (1998), served as his international breakthrough. Since then, he has worked with notable artists such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Bobby McFerrin. His latest album, Brightlight (2024), features both original compositions and jazz standards.
For the Osnabrück Halle performance, Cohen will be accompanied by a talented band consisting of Itay Shimovich (piano), Eviatar Slivnik (drums), Yonathan Voltzok (trombone), Marc Kakon (guitar), and Yuval Drabkin (saxophone). The performance will feature an exclusive program of classics and newer pieces from Cohen's over 30-year career.
Cohen is not only an excellent musician but also a recognised composer. Bassplayer Magazine named him one of the most influential instrumentalists of the 20th century. In addition to his own performances, Cohen is currently committed to promoting young talents.
The Jewish Cultural Festival offers more than just music. The Felix Nussbaum House will host readings during the festival, and various other locations will offer opportunities for interaction, such as film screenings or a street art workshop.
