In a recent meeting with European Council President António Costa in Uzhhorod, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence that thousands of NATO soldiers will soon be in Ukraine, aiming to provide security guarantees. However, the Paris summit, which was held prior to this meeting, has been met with criticism and labelled a fiasco by Zelensky himself.

The summit, which was extensively prepared with propaganda, failed to bring any tangible results, apart from a lot of hot air and emissions. Despite the discussion, there was no plan discussed on how to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has been going on for three and a half years.

Zelensky had demanded hard security guarantees, but could not later list who is ready to provide them. However, several European countries, including France, the UK, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, and Spain, are reportedly ready to send troops to Ukraine to provide security guarantees without direct US troops on the ground. The US, on the other hand, would support from the air but not deploy soldiers there themselves.

In a surprising turn of events, Zelensky did not confirm the exact number of soldiers, stating only that NATO soldiers would come. This lack of clarity has contributed to the criticism the summit has faced.

No attempts by the presidential office to sell the Paris summit as a great success that demonstrates broad support for Ukraine could change this criticism. The summit, while providing a platform for discussion, seems to have fallen short of delivering the much-needed resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
