Cookies Modeled After Barbie's Shoe Box, Including Clear Window Detail!
In a delightful twist on traditional cookie decorating, a unique recipe has emerged for creating edible Barbie boxes. This fun project not only offers a tasty treat but also serves as practice for larger cookie houses during the holiday season.
To start, gather the necessary ingredients: sugar cookie dough, bright pink food coloring, royal icing in different colours, stiff white royal icing, smooth white royal icing, cardboard patterns, gelatin powder, water, an acetate sheet, offset spatula, mini spatula, parchment paper, scissors, a pizza cutter or sharp knife, baking sheets, and optional sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, and other edible toppers.
The creation process begins by rolling out sugar cookie dough, dyeing it with bright pink food coloring, and cutting out the dough using cardboard patterns. Bake the cookies for the least amount of time listed in the recipe.
While the cookies are cooling, it's time to prepare the gelatin plastic. Dissolve gelatin in water over low heat, then spread it onto the acetate sheet. Allow this mixture to dry for 1 to 3 days at room temperature.
Once the cookies have cooled, write "Barbie" on the front panel using smooth royal icing. Cut a window in the front panel, leaving about 1/2 in. along the top and sides, and a larger space along the bottom plus a rounded section in the left hand corner of the window. Cut out two 1-in.-thick rectangles for the side panels and two 1-in.-thick rectangles for the top and bottom panels.
Construct the Barbie box by spreading stiff royal icing around the edges of the back panel, attaching the side panels, and adding royal icing around the perimeter of the back of the panel to place the gelatin plastic. Allow the icing to dry before moving on to the next step.
The front panel of the cookie box has a cut out to see Barbie inside. To create Barbie, roll out more sugar cookie dough, shape it into the desired form, and decorate it with royal icing to customize her features and clothes. If desired, a mini round cookie can be used to create the Mattel logo.
Once Barbie is complete, decorate the Barbie box with sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, and other edible toppers. The gelatin plastic in the front of the box serves as a window to display Barbie inside.
The edible Barbie box can be used as a cake decorating item and placed on top of a birthday cake or cookie cake. This recipe can be made with gluten-free or vegan cookie dough, making it accessible to a wide range of individuals.
Despite extensive research, the originator of the edible Barbie box recipe remains a mystery. However, one thing is certain: this creative project is sure to bring joy and excitement to any occasion.
