Cosmos Exploration: Where does our existence fit in the universe?
On September 9, 2025, the Café Scientifique series, hosted by Pūtaiao ki te Pāpori-School of Science in Society, is taking place in Wellington. The event will take place at The Guest Room at the Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant, located at 39 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro, Wellington.
The evening will start with a short introduction from the speakers, Dr Tim Corballis and Dr Yvette Perrot. Dr Tim Corballis, a Senior Lecturer in Science in Society and novelist at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington, will give a talk about the evolving picture physics gives us regarding the nature of the universe and how people find their place in it. Dr Yvette Perrot, a Senior Lecturer in Astrophysics at Te Herenga Waka, will discuss the largest structures in the Universe using radio and X-ray telescopes.
Doors open at 5.30 pm and talks begin at 6.00 pm. The event will last until 7.00 pm. After the presentations, there will be a question-and-answer conversation, giving attendees the opportunity to engage with the speakers.
