German companies are facing an increasing burden due to data protection regulations, according to a survey conducted by the digital association Bitkom. The survey, which covered all major industries in Germany, revealed that the percentage of companies with a very high workload due to data protection has increased by 6 percentage points compared to the same survey a year ago.

The survey results suggest that the majority of German companies have a high or very high workload due to data protection regulations. A staggering 97 percent of the surveyed companies stated that they have at least a high workload due to data protection, up from 94 percent last year. Among these, 44 percent reported a very high workload.

The survey was likely designed to assess the impact of data protection regulations on German companies. The notable institutions responsible for monitoring and implementing these regulations in Germany include the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI), which oversees federal and telecommunications-related data protection issues, and the Data Protection Conference (DSK), which coordinates among federal and state data protection authorities.

The survey results indicate an increase in the burden of data protection regulations on German companies. Companies are grappling with compliance challenges, data management, and the potential financial and reputational risks associated with non-compliance.
