In a heartfelt tribute, the Ratingen Fire Department has expressed gratitude to Jan Neumann, a veteran firefighter who retired on March 18, 2023, after more than 37 years of service, nearly three decades of which were with the Ratingen Fire Department.
Jan Neumann began his career with the Berlin Fire Department in 1987 before moving to Ratingen in 1997, where he became a defining figure in the department. His quiet but strong way of dealing with people and his calm, competent, and human demeanor earned him deep respect from colleagues and the community.
Jan Neumann was not just a firefighter; he was a mentor, a listener, and an attentive human being. Many who now take on responsibility were guided and influenced by him. His great passion for nurturing the next generation, particularly in training, was evident in his work.
Jan Neumann completed his training for the higher service and took on responsibility as a watch commander and squad leader. In 2007, he switched to the day shift and shaped deployment preparation, training, and public relations for many years.
The Ratingen Fire Department appreciates Jan Neumann for his contributions over the years and for his support in crucial moments. Until the end, Jan Neumann was also a friend to not a few who worked closely with him. The bond between Jan Neumann and the Ratingen Fire Department is promised to remain.
