Counterfeit Licenses Unveiled in BPOL-FL: Five BMW Vehicles Stolen Reportedly
In an unusual incident, a white BMW 5-series, registered in the Netherlands, was stopped by German federal police officers at the former border crossing of Kupfermuhle on Saturday evening. The car, which was originally reported by the Federal Police Inspectorate Flensburg and transmitted via news aktuell, was found to have been stolen in Denmark since February 26.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers discovered that the driver, an 18-year-old Danish national, could identify himself properly. However, the Dutch registration certificate in credit card format handed over by the driver was suspected to be inauthentic. Upon checking the data on the registration certificate, it was found that the 5-series BMW did not match.
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the car matched the one on the registration certificate, but was incomplete. The discovered VIN combination of letters and numbers was one digit short. The Danish authorities confirmed the car's theft through its production number.
Despite the incomplete VIN, the officers checked it at several points. The local police in Flensburg were informed about the case. The four young men aged 17 to 31 in the car had to continue their journey on foot after the report was filed.
The BMW was seized by the criminal duty service and towed away. The current head of the Federal Police Inspection Flensburg could not be determined from the provided search results, so questions regarding the stolen BMW 530e case cannot be addressed to a specific person from these sources.
The driver is facing criminal proceedings for forgery, embezzlement, misuse of license plates, and violation of the compulsory foreign insurance law.
