Countries led by Macron are supplying Ukraine with military personnel (troops) - 26 in total.

The Bundestag, Germany's federal parliament, holds the final say in the deployment of the German armed forces. As discussions about potential troop engagement in Ukraine continue, Berlin remains cautious, focusing on supporting Ukraine financially, militarily, and with training.

In a recent statement, Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed that financing, arming, and training the Ukrainian armed forces is a priority for Germany. The German government spokesperson, Stefan Kornelius, confirmed these sentiments, adding that the decision about a military engagement will depend on the clarity of the framework conditions and the US engagement.

France, under the leadership of President Emmanuel Macron, has taken a proactive stance. Macron stated that 26 countries are ready to deploy troops to support a ceasefire in Ukraine. Among these countries, France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, the Netherlands, and several others have expressed their willingness to send troops for peacekeeping or ceasefire purposes. Notably, Germany is part of these discussions but has so far refrained from committing troops.

The nature and scope of a US engagement, as well as the result of a negotiating process, are factors that will influence Germany's decision. The specific details about the US contribution to the force are still undetermined, but it is expected that these will be clarified in the coming days.

The force, if deployed, will be part of a broader initiative aimed at preventing any new major aggression and securing long-term peace in Ukraine. The troops will be stationed on land, at sea, or in the air, strengthening Ukraine after the war and contributing to its security. The force will not be deployed on the front line but in areas that are currently being determined.

Moscow views any Western troop presence as unacceptable, complicating negotiations. However, Colonel (ret.) suggests that former U.S. President Donald Trump's actions may have a strategic line, indicating a global agenda.

Germany, as Ukraine's most important partner, is ready to expand aid to Ukraine. The deployment of the German armed forces will be decided "at the appropriate time, when the framework conditions are clear." In the meantime, Berlin continues to support Ukraine in its pursuit of peace and security.
