In a significant development, a 31-year-old man from the region, who is a Romanian citizen, has been arrested in connection with a child sexual abuse case. The arrest was made on Friday evening in Romania, following a national and international arrest warrant issued by the Freiburg District Court.

The suspect, described as having a slim build, short black hair, a black beard, and indications that he may be a smoker, is currently being internationally sought for suspicion of child sexual abuse. Witnesses who observed suspicious persons in the company of a girl in the area of the adventure pool and a lake in the northern part of the adjacent forest between 20:20 PM and 22:20 PM on Saturday evening are also asked to make contact.

The Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office and the Federal Criminal Police Office cooperated in the search. The arrest was part of coordinated and comprehensive cross-border search measures by the established Niederwald investigation team.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Freiburg requested the arrest warrant. The search warrant for the suspect's apartment and the arrest warrant were issued by the competent local court in Freiburg. Clothing items that the suspect might have worn at the time of the crime were secured during the search of his apartment. However, his passport was not found during the search.

The exact details of the arrest in Romania are currently unavailable. Romanian security authorities also participated in the arrest. The Police President, Jürgen Rieger, expressed confidence in the work of the international team.

The investigators are particularly interested in tracing the route of the girl from the time she left the leisure pool until she was found by the witness in Grafenhausen. The six-year-old girl was observed by a man who offered to help her find her parents after she lost them in the water park. He led her from the pool area into a nearby forest around 20:20, where he sexually abused her and then left her alone in the forest. The girl was found in Grafenhausen about two hours later by a witness.

Potential witnesses are asked to call 0781 21-2820 to help reconstruct the route to the suspected crime scene. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. The suspect has previously been known to police for theft and fraud, but not in connection with sexual offenses.

The Police President, Jürgen Rieger, expressed his gratitude for the public's cooperation and urged anyone with information to come forward. The case is a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the role each individual plays in ensuring the safety of our community.
