County Cream of the Crop: A Full Detail Examination Over the Last Ten Years!
The tenth annual Creme of the County event, a showcase for San Diego County's finest high school basketball players, was held recently, and it did not disappoint. The event, organised by scout Aaron Burgin, featured the Creme De La Creme game for the region's best players, as well as games for eighth-graders up to ninth-graders.
In the ninth-grade showcase, the 2029 Creme Game was particularly impressive. The group displayed unselfish play and supreme effort, with standout performances from various players. One such player was 6-foot-2 2029 Egypt Dean of La Jolla Country Day, who impressed with nice finishes, passing, and scoring. Lincoln Grogan, a 6-foot-3 2026 guard from St. Augustine (San Diego), was another standout player for the winning white team, earning co-MVP honors.
On the losing black team, Ezekiel Walker, a 6-foot-3 2026 player from Francis Parker (San Diego), earned MVP honors. JuJu Lebel, a 6-foot-5 2026 forward from Foothills Christian (El Cajon, Calif.), also played well for the losing team, scoring 14 points.
Last year, the white jersey-wearing club won the Creme De La Creme game against the black jersey-wearing club. This year, the top game was a close contest between the two teams. J.J. Sanchez and Xair Mendez were key players in the winning team last year.
In addition to the ninth-grade game, the event also featured call-ups from the 2027 class. The three call-ups – 6-foot-1 2027 big body guard Kai Jones of Francis Parker (San Diego), 6-foot-2 2027 Chase Othick of Santa Fe Christina (Solana Beach, Calif.), and 6-foot 7 2027 Chayse Miles of Steele Canyon (Spring Valley, Calif.) – all played well in their respective games. Jeremiah Profit (6-foot-5 2027 from Rancho Christian) was already chosen for the top game.
The 2028 class was also represented, with 6-foot-4 2028 Tyler Johnson of Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) and 6-foot-4 2028 Brooklyn James of Monte Vista (Spring Valley, Calif.) moving up to the Creme De La Creme contest. 6-foot-3 2029 C.J. Johnson of San Marcos (Calif.) and the two 2028 players moved up to the Creme De La Creme contest.
5-foot-11 2030 guard Kyle "Popeye" O'Connor from Greenfield Middle School and 6-foot-2 2030 guard Dillon Rice of Praxis Elite Sports Academy showed promise for Burgin's future events.
Clay Grebing, a 6-foot-7 2026 player from Mission Bay (San Diego), also performed well for the winning team, scoring 15 points and adding five rebounds. Jayden Gray, a 6-foot-1 2026 player from Victory Christian (Chula Vista, Calif.), and Jaden Bailes, a 6-foot-3 2026 shooting guard from JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), also scored 15 points each for the winning team. No information is available about which players Jaden Bailes played with in his last high school year at a different school in Orange County instead of St. Augustine.
