Court Case for Fatal Uber Passenger Shooting in Düsseldorf
In the heart of Düsseldorf, the Regional Court is preparing for a highly anticipated trial, scheduled to begin on Monday, 8th September 2025. The defendant, a 24-year-old German-Turk from the Saarland, stands accused of manslaughter and illegal possession of a weapon.
The incident in question took place six months prior, on 8th March 2025, outside a hotel near Düsseldorf Central Station. The victim, a 49-year-old man from Cameroon, was known to the police as a suspected fraudster. It is alleged that he had defrauded the suspect of a significant sum of money, around 4,700 euros, in a conflict that led to the tragic events.
According to reports, the suspect, accompanied by three men and his mother, lay in wait for the victim outside the hotel. An altercation between the two occurred briefly when the victim appeared. The victim, in an attempt to escape, fled in an Uber car about an hour later. The accused and his companions chased the vehicle, and when it had to stop at a red light, the suspect reportedly fired four shots at the victim from a semi-automatic pistol (Beretta 70).
Tragically, the victim died as a result of his injuries, while the Uber driver survived with a shock. The suspect was arrested in the Hessian town of Wetzlar about two weeks after the incident.
Throughout the trial, nine days have been set for proceedings, with coverage provided by Lokalzeit Düsseldorf at 19:30 on the 8th of September. It is important to note that the suspect does not possess a weapons permit, and the origin of the weapon used remains unknown.
The trial is being closely followed by the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office and the Düsseldorf Regional Court, and the community awaits the verdict with a heavy heart. Despite numerous attempts, the suspect has remained silent about the allegations, and his mother was present during the alleged ambush at the hotel.
This is a developing story, and more details will be reported as they become available. Our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends during this difficult time.
