Hong Kong Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Mainland Chinese Man Accused of Falsifying Qualifications

In a significant development, a Hong Kong court has ordered the arrest of a mainland Chinese man named Che Yuyi, who is currently presumed to be a fugitive in the city. The arrest warrant was signed by Acting Principal Magistrate Cheang Kei-hong.

The accusation against Che Yuyi is related to the false information provided in his visa application under the Top Talent Pass Scheme, one of the seven talent admission schemes currently operating in Hong Kong. The Top Talent Pass Scheme, designed for applicants to provide their qualifications and other relevant information in their visa application, commenced in 2022.

It is alleged that Che Yuyi falsely claimed to have graduated from Monash University in Australia with a bachelor's degree in commerce in July 2017. However, it was later discovered that this claim was untrue.

The incident occurred in October 2023, and the charge sheet was presented in the trial that took place in Sha Tin Court on Wednesday. Che Yuyi failed to appear in Sha Tin Court twice to answer a charge of making a false statement to the Immigration Department in October 2023. As a result, the court confiscated Che Yuyi's HK$200,000 cash bail and a HK$100,000 surety.

The location provided by Che Yuyi as his address is in Sham Shui Po. However, it is currently unclear whether the accused has fled the city. The defendant in question is a talent scheme applicant from mainland China.

The charge against Che Yuyi was for allegedly lying about his qualifications. If found guilty, he may face severe consequences, including deportation and a ban on re-entry into Hong Kong.

This case serves as a reminder for all applicants to the Top Talent Pass Scheme and other similar schemes to provide accurate and truthful information in their applications. Misrepresentation of qualifications or any other relevant information can lead to serious legal consequences.

The trial will continue, and Che Yuyi will not be granted bail unless he justifies his absence in person. More updates on this case will be provided as they become available.
