In a delightful fusion of creativity and experimentation, a crafty mother embarked on an exciting project with her young companions, Miss E (6 years old) and Miss L (4.5 years old). The project? Creating unique, melted pearl bead bowls.

The journey began with the selection of materials. The author received a variety of pony beads from craftprojectideas.com, a veritable treasure trove of colour and shine. Two oven-proof bowls were chosen for the project: a small square glass one and a large round white one.

The process commenced with a pre-heated oven at 350F. The author baked the bowls for 10 minutes, adding baking time in five-minute increments. The bowls shrunk significantly during this process, transforming the round bowl into a saucer-like shape.

To ensure the beads adhered well, the bowls were sprayed with cooking spray. The children, brimming with excitement, had fun choosing which beads to use. However, they found the process of placing the beads up the walls of the bowl fiddly and time-consuming.

The beads, as they melted, gave off a melted plastic smell. After baking for 25 minutes, the beads collapsed slightly but did not melt into one piece. The author found that increasing the oven temperature to 400F and leaving the bowls for another 10 minutes led to burning, so it was best to stick with the original baking time.

After cooling, the bowls came out perfectly. The author smoothed over the sharp edges of the melted bead bowls using sandpaper, ensuring they were safe for little hands.

The girls were thrilled with their finished melted bead bowls, their faces lighting up with joy. The activity was a hit, and the author is already planning to experiment with melted bead coasters and perhaps even more intricate projects in the future.

This crafty adventure was not just a fun activity but also a lesson in patience, creativity, and the joy of transformation. The melted pearl bead bowls serve as a testament to the power of imagination and the magic that can be created when adults and children collaborate on a shared vision.
