In the heart of Dubai, Expo City, a city of the future, continues to captivate visitors with its avant-garde architecture and futuristic pavilions. One such attraction is the Saudi Arabia pavilion, a jet-black structure that has become a highlight of the Expo.

Created by Boris Micka Associates (BMA) and Philip Hartley Associates, the pavilion is a testament to record-breaking audio-visual technology. The pavilion's centrepiece is an escalator leading to two domed high-resolution LED screens, one of the largest concave LED screens ever built. The seam between these screens is a walkway, offering a unique viewing experience.

The pavilion's finale was a cinematic spectacle, with a 5.5-meter cinema screen playing a tourist video about Saudi Arabia, featuring John Travolta. The display, spanning over 370 square meters, was created with 31 projectors, carefully positioned to produce a continuous flowing image.

The Saudi Arabia pavilion was a collaborative effort, with over 2,000 workers from more than 20 agencies contributing to content creation, plumbing, and everything in between. The main design firm for the master plan of Expo City was Aecom.

Expo City's centrepiece dome comes alive at night with a son-et-lumière show, while the Saudi Arabia pavilion's audio is immersive, with speakers installed in the ceiling and handrail lining the walkway.

Next to a restaurant serving traditional Saudi Arabian dishes is the world's largest interactive water feature, a 90 square meter water curtain. The horseshoe-shaped waterfall at Expo City, created by WET Design, is another must-see attraction.

Avant-garde structures like a cavernous cream-coloured dome, an upturned satellite dish-like pavilion, and a giant fidget-spinner-shaped building add to Expo City's futuristic charm.

The Expo site, which cost an estimated $8 billion to build, attracted 24.1 million visitors from all over the world despite taking place at the height of the pandemic. Three pavilions, including the transport-themed pavilion, have resumed service, offering a unique blend of technology and culture.

The Saudi Arabia pavilion at Expo 2020 is more than just a visual spectacle. It reflects the impression most people have of Saudi Arabia but then showcases what the country is really like, offering a glimpse into its rich culture and landscape through a 68 square meter curved LED screen showcasing scenes of Saudi Arabia's landscape and coastline.

As Expo City continues to evolve, the Saudi Arabia pavilion stands as a shining example of how technology and culture can come together to create an unforgettable experience.
