Crash of a crane on Rama II road causes injury to 3 people

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a construction crane collapsed on Rama II Road, causing significant traffic disruption and minor injuries to three individuals.

The incident occurred shortly before Central Mahachai in Muang district, at around 2am. According to reports, the crane was lifting a large steel beam when it lost balance, overturning and sending the beam crashing onto a passing pick-up truck.

The crane toppled and struck the parallel carriageway, causing obstructions that were not cleared until Sunday morning. The crane boom, which struck a high-voltage power pole, has since been removed.

The driver and passenger of the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The crane operator was trapped inside the cabin and required rescue. They were transferred to Samut Sakhon Hospital for further care.

Two cranes were working in tandem to lift the steel beam at the time of the collapse. The company responsible for operating the collapsed crane is the construction firm or contractor managing the site, as identified by local authorities in their investigation reports.

The main carriageway remained closed for crane recovery operations, with police from Mueang Samut Sakhon station redirecting traffic to alternative lanes to minimise further disruption.

Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaiwong visited the site to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the public. Officials expect the full reopening of the road to be shortly.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with heavy construction work and the importance of safety measures in such operations. The authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
