In a dramatic turn of events on Tecumseh Road East, six people were injured in a collision on Saturday evening, with one individual sustaining life-threatening injuries. The incident, which involved a pickup truck, a sedan, and an SUV, caused Tecumseh Road to be closed between McDougall and Goyeau for several hours for the investigation.

The collision occurred when the pickup truck struck the sedan near McDougall Street. The driver of the sedan was assessed at the scene and did not require medical treatment. The driver of the SUV, however, was pinned inside the driver's side with significant damage.

As the SUV caught fire just seconds after the victim was pulled out, the situation became critical. Two bystanders, Nico Verrelli and Ali Abu Khazneh, bravely stepped in to help. They managed to pull a victim from the burning SUV, with Mr. Abu Khazneh untangling the victim's legs from under the steering wheel. The victim was placed near the ground and dragged alongside the grass until the ambulance arrived.

Their quick actions were praised by Robert Dupuis, who witnessed the collision and began live streaming it on Facebook. Mr. Dupuis believes that Mr. Abu Khazneh and Mr. Verrelli are heroes for their actions.

The driver of the SUV, Austin James Richard, 34, has since been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident. The information about who hit Mr. Richard before the accident is not provided.

The driver of the pickup was also seriously injured and remains in medical care. The four other occupants of the SUV suffered serious injuries as well.

The Windsor Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the collision. The road was reopened around 10:30 a.m. the next day.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the heroism of bystanders in emergency situations. Our thoughts are with the injured individuals and their families during this difficult time.
